BPhil Alumni Information

The BPhil is Oxford’s flagship two-year Masters course. It is regarded both as a training for doctoral programmes, and a basis for teaching a range of philosophical subjects. This page provides information on what graduates of the BPhil have gone on to do. In line with UK government legislation (GDPR), this page only includes details of students/alumni from whom we have received written permission to publish their information.

Ketan Ramakrishnan progressed to the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford and graduated in April 2021. He also received a degree from Yale Law School in 2021. He will be starting as an Associate Professor of Law at Yale Law School in January 2023.

Jacob Reynolds worked as a Consultant and Project Manager for the SHM Group (September 2015 - June 2018). He is now the Partnerships Manager for the Academy of Ideas, a non profit organisation committed to creating spaces for robust public debate. It organises the Battle of Ideas, a weekend festival of debate and discussion every year at the Barbican in London, and has also launched: the Debating Matters, a sixth form debating competition for 'substance over style'; The Academy, a residential educational retreat for all ages demonstrating 'university as it should be'; Living Freedom, a resident summer school for 18-25 year olds to interrogate intellectual challenges and opportunities for great freedom in society; and a number of other initiatives.

Kevin Ashby returned to practicing law at the firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, at which he was previously associated (July 2013 - October 2014). He is currently practising law as the Associate General Counsel of the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where he teaches Public Health Law and Bioethics and the Law.

William Clark worked as a Full Stack JavaScript Developer within a startup called Pixsy (January 2016 - March 2017). He then worked as a Full Stack Blockchain Developer at Lisk (July 2017 - September 2018). He is now a member of the second Entrepreneur First cohort in Berlin (from October 2018)

Neil Dewar, the winner of the 2013 Gilbert Ryle Prize for outstanding achievement in the BPhil Examination, progressed to the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford in September 2013, which he completed in September 2016. He is now an Assistant Professor at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (October 2016 - December 2022)

Nora Heinzelmann studied for a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge (from September 2013 - April 2017), before working as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. She is currently a junior faculty member at the Institute for Philosophy, Friedrich Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany (from April 2020)

Stefan Riedener progressed to the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford in September 2013, which he completed in March 2015. He then became a (Senior) Teaching and Research Assistant at the University of Zurich (from 2016-2023) and later an Associate Professor in Practical Philosophy at the University of Bergen (2023-).

Michael Sadler is the CEO/Co-Founder of Republic of Booza, the world's first modern booza brand. Booza is a historical form of ice cream with a soft, elastic-like consistency, which the company rediscovers through a variety of contemporary flavor offerings. It launched in 2018 with a flagship scoop-shop in Brooklyn, NYC. Since 2021 Michael has been the Director of Operations and Strategy at Kingdom Supercultures in Brooklyn NYC, which is a Series A-stage BioTech company that has developed next-generation fermentation technology.

Andy Yu progressed to the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford in September 2013, which he completed in December 2016. He is now working in law, following completion of a JD in Law at the University of Toronto (2016-2019)
