Dawn Wilson (Hull): 'Metavision, Machine Vision, and Machine-Generated Images'
Pictures are often visual representations of a visual scene, but some are visual representations of visual experiences: artworks by Robert Pepperell are one example. Human viewers are capable of ‘metavision’: visual experiences of visual representations of visual experiences. Arguably, machine vision is not capable of metavision. I consider machine-generated images and explore whether a capacity for metavision is necessary for generating visual representations of visual experiences.
